Playa Del Fuego, back on the radar!

Originally PDF was going to be a miss, but plans have opened up and allowed us to take the adventure down to Delaware for one of the last festivals of the season.

Chris & I will be taking it easy this time though, no theme camp, not bringing Rock Inferno (though I wish we could, since last time was such a blast!). Can't wait to see you guys there. Say hi!

That’s right, I’m doing a series of Free classes for all you fine spinners and soon to be spinners out there. This way you can come out, meet me, see a bit of my teaching style, ask me questions, and meet others in the area. It’s going to be a ton of fun, and I encourage you to bring all your friends that might be interested. There’s no limit on the people, so I’m not sure on how much space we’ll have, but we’ll figure something out. And make sure to bring your toys if you’ve got them.

Here’s the exact schedule for the demo:

Wednesday 2/1/2012:
Beginner Poi: 7:00-8:30 PM
Intermediate Poi: 8:30-10 PM

Thursday 2/2/2012:
Beginner Mini Hoops: 7:00-8:30 PM
Advanced Poi: 8:30-10 PM

I’ll be doing a demo for each of the 4 classes I’m teaching this Spring. And the good news is that all the days and times correspond to the actual class schedule, so if you’re free for the demo, hopefully that means you’ll be free for the class. Yay!

A video of me talking about the demo and classes!

All the specific info on the lessons and registration can be found on my website:
http://www.gyropulse.com/classesnyc

The classes are all being held at Triskelion Arts, Studio B.
starting on 2/29-4/19, Wednesday and Thurday Nights, from 7-10
Schedule for the classes mirrors the demo.

So come on out, meet people, and sign up for my classes!

In response to us losing warm weather, light, and enough space to spin with our friends, I'm going to start renting out the biggest studio at Triskelion (Studio A) at *least* once a month and try to get everybody to come down and SPIN! Flow folk of all kind, shape, and toy welcome! Donations to simply cover the space is all that is needed from ya'll, so if you can just pitch in like $5 bucks (minimum, depending on the amount of peeps that show up, more would probably be appreciated haha), that should cover it, otherwise if we break even I'll stop charging, you know the drill..hey, it's space and it's winter!

BUT...please read this...

As a person brought up on hoop-tastic ways, I WOULD like to consider one hour (half) the jam to be no talking...yes, that's right...so we can get in to our spin state...for those of you brought up on Hoopath, you already know the wonderful headspace you get in from being able to spin in public around people you dig and *magically* without the intrusion of headphone cords! For those of you not familiar and feel it's weird..just try it out. I guarantee you'll love it. Plus you'll have the second half to chat so, win win! Music (good music) will be provided for the first half, after that we can just shmooze around and chat it up..sound like a grand idea?

AWESOME. Invite everyone!!!

HONORING THE BODY: A Mechanics Workshop for Flow Artists and Flow Teachers, Feb 5, 2012

Join Bex Burton in NYC for her: HONORING THE BODY: A Mechanics Workshop for Flow Artists and Flow     Teachers

    Sunday, February 5, 2012

    1:00pm until 3:00pm

Triskilion Arts Studios, 118 North 11th Street, between Berry and Wythe, Brooklyn, NY

*Register by midnight Wednesday, January 4 to be entered to win a 60-min private session with Bex, incorporating Pilates and Thai Massage to address your specific needs!*

Drawing on 25+ years of movement training in dance, Pilates and Thai Massage, Bex Burton guides you through warm up techniques appropriate for flow artists, and introduces functional strength and stretch techniques to address common injuries and low-level chronic pain resulting from our zealous passion for Flow Dance.

Goals:

• Define “warm up” and discuss the fundamentals
of what makes a good warm up

• Learn full body exercises that address fundamentals
of warming up as well as specifics needs of one’s particular
flow practice (hoop, poi, staff, fans etc.)

• Learn basic postural muscular activation and breathing
techniques to promote a strong center and fluid extremities

• Pinpoint repetitive patterns found in flow arts and discuss
the anatomy and biomechanics of these movements

• Learn exercises to strengthen elongated, overstretched
muscles developed from flow patterns

• Explore active and passive stretch and massage of shortened,
tight muscles developed from flow patterns

Bex’s approach to movement: "Sense of Motion,” www.senseofmotion.com is the conscious and active awareness of the body in motion and at rest. Sense of Motion supports correct alignment and proper movement patterns of the spine and major joints. This focus builds functional strength, injury prevention, alleviation of low-level chronic pain, and correction of muscular imbalance due to poor movement patterns and over use.

This is an interactive workshop where Flow Dancers are encouraged to attend with their movement questions, their painful situations, or simply an open curiosity of how better to promote the longevity of healthy Flow. By incorporating SOM techniques, we have the potential to increase efficiency, ease of improvisation, and physical benefits of Flow Movement, and support and sustain one’s Flow practice.

Bex Burton is not a doctor. ☺ If you have severe chronic pain or other related injuries, past or present, please consult a doctor prior to attending the workshop.

Things to bring:
• A yoga mat or blanket
• Your flow prop of choice (or pain)
• Questions regarding specific movements,
postures, alignment etc.
• An open mind!
